Sitting Bedside as a Death Midwife

Sitting Bedside as a Death Midwife.

My bedside work is the heart of my practice; hands-on care of the dying & grieving is where I stand most fully in my own calling.

The thing I love most about this part of my work is that it is a unique reflection of the person that I am serving. Some days I read aloud to a dying person while their caregiver showers, other days I bring some homemade cookies and wash a sink full of dishes, occasionally I sit with someone alone in the hospital and hold their hand.

Always, in the space where someone moves from alive to dead, I feel awed by the mystery of this life, the beauty and heartbreak of this world, and the interconnectedness of us all living and loving alongside one another. It’s an honor to be called to this space.
